TabTidy · Duplicate Tab Cleaner (No Lag)

Privacy Policy

Last updated August 14, 2026

TabTidy is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains exactly what the extension reads, what it never touches, and where your settings live.

What TabTidy reads

TabTidy uses one browser permission to do its job: tabs. This gives it access to the URL, title, and window/pinned state of your open tabs — nothing more.

Permission What it's for
tabs Read each open tab's URL and title to detect duplicates, and close tabs when you ask it to.
storage Save your settings — excluded URLs, matching rules, license status — locally on your device (and via Chrome Sync for Pro users who enable it).
alarms Periodically double-check the tab index hasn't drifted out of sync, as a backstop — not how live updates work day to day.

What TabTidy never does

  • Never injects any script into the pages you visit
  • Never requests access to your browsing history
  • Never reads the content of any page — only the tab's URL and title
  • Never sends your tab URLs, titles, or activity to any server
  • No analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts

Duplicate detection happens entirely in memory, on your device. Nothing about your open tabs is ever transmitted anywhere.

Where your settings live

Your preferences — excluded URLs, matching rules, retain-on-close rules — are stored with Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. If you're a TabTidy Pro user with sync enabled, settings are additionally stored in chrome.storage.sync, which Chrome syncs across your own signed-in devices. That data stays inside your Google account's own sync infrastructure — TabTidy has no server, and never sees it.

TabTidy Pro & license validation

Purchases are handled entirely by Dodo Payments, our payment processor — TabTidy never sees your payment details. After purchase, activating a license sends only the license key you enter to Dodo's validation API, to confirm it's active. No tab data, browsing activity, or other personal information is included in that request.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the "last updated" date above will change accordingly. Continued use of TabTidy after an update means you accept the revised policy.
